Hack Your Bucketlist

Published:
June 18, 2020

A Bucketlist is a blueprint for the ultimate life. It is directly from our hearts onto paper. It’s the one thing in life that we can fully let go of all judgements and be our most honest version of ourselves. This is what we want and we are absolutely capable of completing it (even if it doesn’t sound true at first when we say it).

If you want to live your dream life please read and follow the steps below

BEFORE WRITING A BUCKETLIST

Get into the mindset that ANYTHING is possible if you want it bad enough. This is not something that you should allow the voice of doubt to have an opinion on. This is a time to let the 6 year old inside of you out again. He hasn’t had much of a say in a while anyways. When you know that your life is completely up to you, and you are the director of this movie, then you’re ready to begin writing.

THE FIRST TEN TO TWENTY ITEMS ARE EASY

“Skydiving” “travel to ____” and “Have children” are some of the few that seem to flow off the pen of bucketlisters and they are a perfect start. Don’t hold back and let them flow. If you re-read one and you realize you don’t care much about it, feel free to erase it. This is your blueprint and you decide.

YOU MAY FIND YOURSELF STUCK

You’ve written 30-40 items and you were hoping for more. Luckily inspiration is easy to find online! I googled things like “most epic bucketlist ever” and “100 bucketlist items” as well as “Worlds best festivals” and lastly “Places to see before you die”. Feel free to steal a few from my bucketlist. I’ve had more joy than I thought was possible living by that list and I’m sure you would too.

ONCE YOU’VE WRITTEN THE LIST

This blueprint for your life. You need to begin checking them off immediately. I have seen people put off their list time after time. People write a list, get excited and then a week later, life has distracted them and the list has disappeared like a fart in a hurricane. Don’t let it happen to you! Find the easiest item you have and decide you will finish it today. No matter how small. The sooner you start crossing off items the better. Think of it as living your dream life, even if it’s as simple as doing a cartwheel like the first item I checked off!

PLAN IT OR ELSE

Take the time to plan at least half the items on your list right away. Some people have hundreds of items and planning could take a crazy amount of time. The most important thing to remember is that you’re planning the funnest, most memorable and generally the most epic experiences of your life, so enjoy it! Take time to see if you could check off three or four in one trip to europe or spend an hour researching how to see the great wall without dealing with the sometimes complicated visa process. Realize that if you don’t make a plan, your bucketlist is no better than a wish, a dream or crossing your fingers and hoping it will happen magically. If you want it bad enough, you will always find a way.

EXAMPLE PLAN

#36-Skydiving:

Google skydiving+your city.

Find out how much they charge.

Google “Skydiving tips”

Save up the amount it costs (Usually $199 for first timers)

Book it and fly!

READ YOUR BUCKETLIST ALL THE TIME

It’s so easy to forget about the list when life is so busy and you’re worried about important things like paying the rent instead of your dreams. I get it, I’ve been there and I understand. The advice still stays the same, read the list and plan. You won’t be broke forever and knowing exactly what you need to save to accomplish your dream is everything. You’re telling your brain that your list is important by burning it into your brain. This is your dream life you’ve written down and reading it more than once a year is not only necessary, it’s fun and inspiring!

THERE ARE NO RULES

This is your list. Change it, shorten it, lengthen it or tear it up. Don’t let anybody make you feel bad about it and if you never want to show a soul then that’s perfectly fine. I didn’t show my list to a single person for years. Your dreams are powerful. They can change behavior, they can inspire yourself and others to reach for more, and they can push you forward when everything seems to be going to shit.
